Short summary, 5 stars for actual printing function, - 1 star for high degree of frustration in setting it up on a network. Let me start with this by saying I have extensive experience in IT and setting up computers, printers, networks, etc. I found setting this printer up on the network was a nightmare.
There are two modes basically, one that allows it connect to the local wireless network and a mode where the printer creates it's own network and you then connect to that to print. The problem comes in trying to determine which mode you are in as there is no external feedback on the device. You have to hold down one button until a light flashes 3 or 4 times to switch back and forth, then hold down another button until a light flashes 6 times and then printer a page showing you what mode you are.
We bought this for my office a couple of years ago for a fax machine replacement, yes, people still fax. We have also been using it as a scanner, color copier, and color printer. It has been my go to printer at work, despite having a Brother Laser printer on the network as well. If I need a bunch of black and white prints of something, I will use the laser, however, 95% of the time I use MX922. It works well as a fax machine, prints black and white well, prints color well, copies black and white well, copies color well (although slower than black and white), and scans okay. The only thing I wish they could improve is the software for the scanner.
It may be the owner/reviewer's fault, but the scanning interface is not as intuitive as it could be. It would be nice if I could. After reading a ton of reviews for various printers, I settled on this one because of its large format and the additional black (pigment) ink. The price - for a printer of this quality, $150 - is more than reasonable. Couldn't be happier.
We are suggesting all these best wireless printers for mac and windows users for home and office. 1) HP OfficeJet Pro 8740: All-in-One Wireless Printer with Mobile Printing, Instant Ink ready More upgraded from OfficeJet Pro 8630, HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 is the best All-in -One printer. Not every scanner is a great one if you're thinking about going paperless. You need a good one that'll handle all the documents, receipts, and oddly-shaped papers you need to digitize,.
I used this printer to create wedding invitations (and other ancillary materials) for my daughter's upcoming nuptials. The print quality - even of tiny fonts with delicate hairline flourishes - is gorgeous. The kind of paper you use will make a big difference, of course, and figuring out the print settings for your software will take some experimenting. Admittedly, for this project my ink coverage wasn't terribly heavy, but after 150 formal invitations, RSVP cards, shower invitations and envelopes for everything, I'm still using the original 'demo' cartridges that came with the printer.
Certainly the ink will go faster if you're printing a lot of large format. What counts as 'easy to set up' clearly is quite person-specific. Knowing that I don't find printer set-up easy or intuitive-I truly am a Newtonian person trying to get by in this digital world-I asked a tech-savvy engineer friend to help me set the thing up. He has set up a lot of printers, done a lot of complicated hardware modification, etc. Yet it took quite a while to get the printer set up and working. My friend thought that some of the directions, and some of the choices, were less than straightforward. Me, I found it pretty frustrating.
The good news is that the printer DOES work. It does a good job copying and printing monochrome documents, which I principally what I need it to do. It is easy enough to print photos with this printer, but the results are less than fabulous. I was really excited to get this printer up and running.
Perfect for a home office, where I put anywhere from 8-10 hours of work in a week. Well, while it looks sleek, it definitely feels like you’re going to break the thing when you touch it, haha. Biggest flaw (and I’m still trying to determine whether to return it or not.it hasn’t happened often enough yet for me to declare it a huge issue) is that the printer often fails to pull paper in to print. You hear the rubber track wheel turning inside to grab paper, and it doesn’t feed the paper. The printer then errors and says it’s out of paper or is too full, or is jammed. None of which are the case.
Then you have to reset the damn thing. Tried troubleshooting with Canon’s site, but like I said, it doesn’t happen often enough yet. I bought the Canon LBP600D or something like that, and it was awful.
No mac drivers (we have a mix in our house). Come on Canon, it's 2014, not 2002, every device should work on Mac, Windows, and even iOS and Android! Get with the times. Anyway, I tried to install that and it didn't work on my PC.
I went to install it like every other printer I've ever used by plugging it into power and my PC. You're supposed to install the software first.
Couldn't ever get it to work, and this is coming from someone who used to setup technology solutions small offices such as printers, servers, networks etc. If I couldn't figure that out, then how can the regular non-tech person? Anyway, onto this printer. The Brother HL-L2340DW setup was a breeze. As easier as you could hope for, really. I placed it on the desk. Rant I've got to admit this was a grudge purchase.
After nearly 30 years of buying HP printers I've given up. The reasons are long and varied. Also I decided that if you truly need printing and scanning you are far better off buying a dedicated printer and scanner. All manufacturer's lower end (. I've been using a high end color laser HP Printer for three or four years.
This Canon printer comes with 5 ink cartridges, fully capable of printing high quality photos. It also scans and copies. Wireless set up for both smart phones and computers are easy breezy and after opening the box and plugging it in, you're just a few minutes away from being operational.
Unfortunately the scanner lacks a document feeder so only flatbed scanning is an option. Also it doesn't come with a full fledged owner's manual, though likely there's on on line but from what I can decipher, two sided printing is NOT an option. While I don't think there's an ink jet on the planet that will give me as high of a quality of letters writing capabilities as my laser this Canon really excels at color document printing, specifically photos, and gift cards. I'm more inclined to give low reviews, since I'm picky and usually find things that annoy me. So I don't get a lot of 5 star items I end up with. Especially technology, as I've worked with computers since the early 80's and am far, far more critical of technology than the average person. I'm an Epson person, so I wasn't expecting much from this.
I do have a Canon laser printer here at home but that's almost never used, I think the last time I printed anything with that was about 14 months ago. I usually use my Epsons both at home and work. Unboxing this was pretty typical - lots of tape, lots of cellophane. No different than any other printer. I like that this has a crosshatch pattern on the lid, so it is not a fingerprint magnet.
That was my first. I love Canon. This printer/scanner is used every day for scanning FABRIC for my Etsy store. Fabric - unlike a photo - needs clear absolute perfect tone, clarity in color differentiation. This baby does the job. I had it for about a year and all of a sudden it was taking forever to scan. So I went on Amazon and ordered another Canon replacement.
In the meantime - I called Canon and waited less than 5 minutes for tech support. The Canon Tech helped me in about 30 minutes figure out the setup button (I accidentally pushed) that changed my scan time from quick to torture!!
(Related to wireless vs. USB) Very fast with direct USB - not as fast over the wireless. So now my scanner is working perfect and the spare is stored in the garage in case this. If you're like me you are in the market for a affordable printer because the cost of replacing the ink on your old printer is not economical. Having to spend half the ink trying to 'clean and allign' only to still have poor results just isn't worth the money.

That being said I wasn't looking to drop hundreds for something that is going to rack up more excessive ink costs only to be worn out in two years. I didn't need anything too fancy. I do have a home business with a school aged child if that helps you understand the demand I put on a printer. Un-boxing and setup was a breeze. Setting up the cloud printing feature was painless and VERY useful. The colors from a color copy were slightly muted but very crisp and sharp.
I like the small profile and lightweight. This is an all-in-one printer/scanner device for home use/light duty. The printer has a footprint of 14.5”x12”, and stands 6” high; scanning glass is 9”x12”. Controls are with a 3” touch screen. Inks come in 5 individual ink tanks, all available in XL and XXL. It has both front and rear paper feed, each of which has a capacity of 100 sheets of regular paper or 20 sheets of photo paper. It can print on 3.5x3.5” 4x4”, 4x6”, 5x5”, 5x7”, 8 x 10”, 8.5x11”, 8.5x14” paper and US No 10 (4.1x 9.5”) envelopes.
It will print on cards, glossy photo paper, high resolution paper, iron-on transfers, luster paper, matte photo paper, plain paper, and semi-gloss photo paper. It is completely wireless, and will print with Apple AirPrint, Canon Print, Google Cloud Print, Mopria Print Service, and Wireless PictBridge. It will work with Windows (Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 SP1). Easy setup, quality output, attractive styling, and good apps for iOS and Mac make this a winner. I've worked in IT for many years, and have set up probably 1,000 printers by now, so to get a sense of a more typical user experience, I asked the wife to set this one up.
What follows is her review.Getting the printer out of the box Super easy, self-explanatory pictures on the box made it very easy to get the printer out of the box without any hassle.Setting up cartridges and printer Very easy set up. Combination of pictures and written instructions work very well and the printer does the calibrating and everything it needs to do quietly and in a timely manner.Setting up WiFi Took me two tries but the instructions were still good.
Again pictures and text are very helpful, also helpful to have different instructions for different devices (phone, computer or Mac/PC).
